Full of vitamin C, antioxidants, and antiviral power, this sunny shot is a powerhouse of health benefits. It can help soothe sore throats, cure upset stomachs, or just give you an extra boost of energy. The ginger and turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory and cancer-preventing properties, cut through the sweetness of the orange juice. And since you just need 5 minutes and a blender, it’s super easy to make.  Be warned, these shots have a bite.

Turmeric contains carcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.  The golden spice supports immune health, helps relieve pain and can aid in digestion among other things.

Ginger contains gingerol, a substance with powerful medicinal properties.  Ginger has a very long history of use in various forms of traditional and alternative medicine.  It has been used to help digestion, reduce nausea and help fight the flu and common cold to name a few. It has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Cayenne pepper is a hot chili pepper in the Capsicum family that is frequently added to dishes to enhance their flavour.  Cayenne pepper has been part of the Native American cuisine and medicine for at least 9 000 years.  Many of the health benefits are attributed to the ingredient capsaicin and may include boosting your metabolism, reducing hunger, lowering blood pressure, aiding digestive health, relieving pain, improving psoriasis, reducing cancer risk and relieving congestion.  The pepper contains vitamin C, B6 and E, potassium, manganese and flavonoids and a variety of antioxidants.

Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin C and dietary fibre.  Oranges are also a good source of B vitamins including B1, pantothenic acid and folate as well as vitamin A, calcium copper and potassium.  A healthy dose of vitamin C provides antioxidant protection and immune support.

Ingredients
  • 300ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric or fresh grated
  • ¼ tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • small pinch of black pepper
  • 2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
Directions
  • Step 1 Combine the ingredients in a blender and blend for a minute.
  • Step 2 Pour into shot glasses and enjoy.
  • Step 3 Store in the fridge for up to a week or in an ice cube tray in the freezer for up to a month.
