The best healthy chocolate mousse pots – dairy and refined sugar free

When you are excluding sugar and dairy from your diet you have limited options when it comes to desserts.  These chia seed chocolate mouse pots are indulgent and healthy.  The chia seeds are used to thicken the mouse and coconut milk gives it its rich and creamy taste. What’s not to like?

Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants and provide fibre, iron and calcium.

Dairy and refined sugar free chia seed chocolate mousse pots.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 3 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp chocolate flavour protein powder (we used Wazoogles superfood protein shake)
  • 1½ tbsp cocoa
  • 2 majool dates soaked in hot water
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp nut butter (we used almond butter)
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • pinch of salt
Directions
  • Step 1 First add the milk and then the chia seeds to a blender and blend for 30 seconds.
  • Step 2 Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender.
  • Step 3 Blend until very smooth and creamy.
  • Step 4 Scoop the mixture into 4 small glass ramekins, cover with cling wrap and place in the fridge for at least 60 minutes (ideally overnight).
  • Step 5 Top with your favourite topping. We love topping these mousse pots with berries, banana slices, chopped nuts or shaved coconut.
